After months of social distancing and stay-at-home orders, it looked like things were finally easing back to some semblance of normality. For many individuals, this was the much needed light at the end of the tunnel as businesses slowly opened up shop again and states executed on their reopening plans. Restaurants and bars, albeit with new precautions and safety measures, were available for dining in. Retail shops and malls were an option once more. Beaches, parks, trails, general outdoor activities.

Unfortunately, it looks like we may have jumped the gun and gotten our hopes up too quickly. Many states are quickly reinstating stay-at-home protocols and ordering businesses to shut down as a surge of COVID-19 cases occurred over the last couple weeks. This can be particularly rough to go through a second time, especially if you were looking forward to cautiously rejoining society only to be pushed back into your home.

In this article, we’ve put together several options for maintaining a stable mindset as we shift back into a quarantined lifestyle.

1. HEALTHY DIET

We get it. It’s difficult to maintain a healthy and balanced diet, especially when you are stuck at home all day. It is way too tempting and far too easy to throw in frozen TV dinners or order take-out because we are too lazy to cook. The monotony of a perpetual stay-at-home can really impact our motivation when it comes to preparing meals.

What we eat is huge in terms of mindset, mood, and overall well being. Eating junk food or unhealthy, fat-saturated meals can create a sense of sluggishness or low energy. This will generate a negative feedback loop and can enhance feelings of self-loathing, especially if you begin to put on unwanted weight or splurge past your budget for food.

To maintain a healthy diet, start light by incorporating more superfoods or plant-based options into your meals. As you get more of the necessary nutrients into your day-to-day, you will slowly have more energy and feel more balanced overall. We are also a huge proponent of incorporating CBD into your beverages and food to capitalize on some of the health benefits as well. An easy hack is adding drops of full-spectrum CBD oil through one of our popular CBD Tincture Oils.

2. IMMERSING YOURSELF INTO A HOBBY

Perhaps staying inside all the time in isolation has created a feeling of restlessness. We all react differently to the circumstances and while there are individuals who feel burned out or lethargic, others will feel like there is no where to displace their energy. Time doesn’t go by in a blur. In fact, it may feel like it goes by way too summer. Although it is not ideal, a great way to utilize the time is to immerse yourself in a hobby.

We understand that options may feel limited, but if you were to think about all the various hobbies or side projects that you’ve wanted to do for the longest time--how many of those can actually be accomplished while at home? Blogging? Screenwriting? Producing music? Launching a new website? A new language perhaps? There are so many things to try, so many digital ways of learning, the sky is truly the limit.

Often, the biggest hurdle when it comes to new hobbies or skills is getting started. And once you get started, it can be tricky to stay focused and stick with it. We recommend trying our CBD Gel Capsules to generate more calm and ease any sensations of being antsy.

3. EXERCISING OR WORKING OUT

This is common knowledge, although it can be easy to find an excuse to avoid it. Exercise and physical activity can be a huge form of stress relief. Working out releases endorphins and can help relax the mind. As with many good habits, it is hard to get started and we can always find a reason not to do it. There’s no room. There’s no equipment. There’s no time. None of those are valid for why you cannot exercise or work out while in quarantine!

There are several ways to incorporate fitness into your home routine without purchasing equipment or even going outside! Start with basic body weight exercises. Sit ups can be done comfortably from the floor in the smallest of spaces. If you need assistance, tuck your feet under your couch to hold yourself steady. Push ups and planks are other body weight exercises that don’t require heavy effort. The great thing about body weight workouts is that difficulty can be adjusted by the number of reps and sets.

Wanting to get in cardio? Mountain climbers for 3 minutes nonstop will work up a sweat for even the most athletic of individuals. No time? Look up high-intensity interval workouts that don’t require equipment and get in a full body sweat in 15-20 minutes. Once you are done, utilize our CBD Muscle Recovery Cream for post-workout recovery and relaxation.

4. MAKING TIME FOR YOURSELF

Sometimes, we get caught up in our day to day. We are living through unprecedented times. Go easy on yourself. Everything else aside, what does “me time” look like to you? One of the biggest disconnects when we are in isolation is the fact that this is a circumstance, not a choice. Because it is beyond our control, there are subconscious feelings of being out of control and being helpless.

This is normal. Something feels off and you can’t quite figure out what it is. You may even identify as a homebody or an introvert and yet, you find yourself questioning why you aren’t thriving when you should be. Not having decision making authority over our lives can make us feel like prisoners in our own homes, which only amplifies the feeling of isolation and loneliness.

You might argue that you have had all the time in the world to yourself for the last few months. Pause and ask yourself, was that quality time for yourself? Was that time that you specifically allocated to recharging? Or did you end up lounging around and letting the day take over? Even if your idea is being lazy, vegging out and watching Netflix, make sure it is something you are choosing to make time for. That shift in mentality will make a BIG difference.

“Me time” looks different for everyone. The key thing to remember here is to schedule it in. This will change the narrative for you and put you in a better mood. Looking forward to doing nothing all weekend? Great! Make that a conscious decision, grab your favorite take-out, pick up some skin care products (we recommend ourCBD Face Masks for ultimate relaxation), and lounge away!

5. SOCIALIZING FROM A DISTANCE

Alright, so you’ve done everything you can to optimize feeling “okay” at home by yourself. It’s not enough and you are struggling still. Humans are social creatures, whether we are extrovert or introverted. We crave interaction and connection. While it is hard to do this from a distance, try scheduling and incorporating video calls, phone calls, or virtual meetups with friends and family.

If you are like the bulk of individuals who perpetually text and message, change it up! Zoom calls were growing in popularity for a reason! Seeing a familiar face over video may not be the same thing as meeting up in person, but it can really alleviate feelings of social isolation. Feeling awkward? Turn that video call into a virtual activity. Put on a show and watch digitally together. Have dinner at the same time. Perhaps try a new Postmates restaurant together (if that is an option).

If you’d like to elevate the level of “chill” and reduce social anxiety, or general anxiety, we would recommend our CBD Gummies for this. Delicious and long lasting, they can provide a calming effect to allow you to get through the days.
