She didn’t get it. There was not anything wrong in particular, per se. But she was feeling off her game. And this has been happening for some time now. On the surface, everything felt fine. At least, it felt like it should be. She had a great partner who adored her. Her business was running full speed ahead and surprisingly maintaining sales levels despite the slight economic downturn. But she knew in her gut that something wasn’t quite right.
She described her weeks as both slow and fast. She began each Monday with a list of things she wanted to accomplish, both personally and for her business. She wanted to meal prep, she wanted to get ahead of the billing, she wanted to finally update the website with the new marketing material. But somehow, the days would feel drawn out. And yet, she was not nearly as productive as she knew she could be. Soon enough, it was the middle of the week and the stress would settle in once she realized how much she had to get done in the next couple of days. A midweek slump.
This isn’t an uncommon occurrence for some of our customers. CBD is used for a number of different reasons, but one of the most popular introductions to incorporating CBD into day to day living, stems from stress and anxiety. In the situation described above, this was a first time customer of ours who had just about reached her wits end and was truly looking at all possible solutions to power through the week. She reached out to us about a month after her initial order arrived and described the improved mood and the noticeable productivity increase.
We think it is important and noteworthy to break down the common misconceptions about slumps. When you think of the word “slump” you may automatically and incorrectly think about someone who is feeling very down and gloomy, perhaps someone who is completely unproductive and unable to get anything done. While these symptoms do certainly qualify an individual to be described as being in a slump, most of us experience milder effects.
Have you gotten about halfway through the week and wondered why the time seemed to be dragging on? Have you felt like you were waiting for the day to end or the weekend to arrive? Even on those weeks where there is a ton to do, do you find yourself feeling unmotivated on a Wednesday. You know you have that exam to study for, that proposal to complete, but you just aren’t fully focused. That’s not to say you don’t slowly get things done. But you aren’t on your A-game.
Midweek slumps can affect even the most productive of people. It may only be a couple hours at a time, or a brief burst of demotivation, but it happens. And there are a number of different reasons that it can occur.
Sleep is absolutely critical in having a productive day and maintaining a well balanced lifestyle. If you have ever gone to class or had to go to work after a night of restless sleep, you know exactly how much this can affect your overall well being. It is harder to focus. You feel tired and drained. Energy levels are lower. It’s difficult to think. Tasks take twice as long. Information doesn’t compute as easily. And if you’re fatigued!
One night of bad sleep can really throw you off the next day. The unfortunate part is when you continuously sleep poorly. As with most things, your body begins to adapt. Over time, you get accustomed to that feeling of exhaustion that you stop noticing it. If you are one of those individuals that don’t regularly sleep through the night, you may find yourself constantly waiting on the weekend to “catch up” on rest.
This could be a huge contributor to why you are facing that midweek slump, week after week. Luckily, this is one area that can be targeted directly. CBD has been shown to improve overall sleep and quality of rest. An easy way to incorporate CBD into your nightly routine is to add some tincture oil to a cup of tea an hour or so before bed. The advantage of CBD Tincture Oil is the ability to control the dosage. You can easily experiment with the amount that works best for you and figure out which dosage will give you the best night of rest.
Those individuals who seem to thrive and never slow down? The one thing that appears to be consistent is their energy levels. They are never running on fumes. They are full of life and ready to go, go, go. Having a consistent store of energy is generally a strong indicator of having a balanced life. Low energy can directly impact your overall mood, motivation, and productivity at any given time.
There isn’t any singular cause for low energy, but there are some common ones ranging from diet to exercise to emotional and mental state. Having a balanced diet is a big factor in your energy levels. Healthy eating does not have to be a laborious part of your regimen, but it should be something to pay attention to if you are constantly snacking or running out of energy. Eating too much or too little can cause instability in energy levels as well. The best way to ensure that you are eating consistently (and relatively balanced) is to allocate some time to meal prepping.
This way, even if you’re not being completely healthy with the calories or the food types, at the very least, you are consuming meals at a consistent serving size, with regular frequency. You would be surprised to find what a difference it makes when you begin having a similar breakfast daily (even if it is just a bowl of cereal!).
Another area that can have a direct impact on overall energy levels is the amount of physical activity you have. A regular dose of exercise and/or some type of fitness activity can have a significant impact on your energy levels. This is not to say that you need to work out daily with high intensity. However, working out does have a correlation with a number of health benefits including improved mood, better focus, higher quality of sleep, and increased energy. It is something to consider incorporating into your day-to-day if you haven’t already.

Perhaps you sleep fine and you don’t have issues with your energy levels. Yet, you are still feeling high strung and burnt out in a way by the middle of the week. A third reason you can be experiencing this type of slump is due to high levels of stress and anxiety.
Stress and anxiety can be caused by a number of different areas. Perhaps you have a very tight deadline coming up and you are feeling overwhelmed. This is very common, whether you have a huge workload in your job, or finals that you don’t feel prepared for. This sense of the limited time closing in on you can be counterproductive. Instead of focusing and using the time wisely, the stress can hinder you and cause you to drop into a funk.
Or maybe there is some turbulence in your personal life. Did you get into an argument with a friend? Did you find out some troubling news? Are you simply feeling cranky and in a bad mood? Our emotional and mental state can add an extra layer of distress to our already hectic lives. This can be highly distracting and prevent us from focusing on the tasks at hand. Worse, it compounds and you find yourself in a position where you have not gotten nearly as much done as you need. What happens then? More stress. More anxiety. It’s a negative cycle.
With everything that is going on, CBD is truly an alternative solution to help address and mitigate stress and anxiety. There are various products and ways to add CBD to your lifestyle, but one of our favorites for anyone new or starting off is our CBD Sour Gummies. The multi-flavored soft chews can be taken at the beginning of the day to help calm the mind and increase overall productivity.
There are good days and there are bad days. And sometimes there are bad weeks. It isn’t abnormal to feel a funk towards the middle of the week. Our lives are hectic and there are so many changing circumstances every day. With all that is going on, it is no wonder that we feel drained by halfway through.
Whether your midweek slump stems from physiological factors such as lack of sleep, or from external factors such as work or school stress, CBD can be leveraged to address the symptoms. Productivity builds momentum and can grow. The more you are able to overcome a midweek slump, the better you will be the next time you feel a little low.
Diet, exercise, sleep, mood, and stress can all affect your productivity. While CBD isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution, it is certainly something to consider as an option.
